DW is seeing some issues due to today's Amazon outage. For right now it looks like the site is loading, but it may be slow. Some of our processes like notifications and journal search don't appear to be running and can't be started due to rate limiting or capacity issues. DW could go down later if Amazon isn't able to improve things soon, but our services should return to normal when Amazon has cleared up the outage.

Edit: all services are running as of 16:12 CDT, but there is definitely still a backlog of notifications to get through.

Edit 2: and at 18:20 CDT everything's been running normally for about the last hour.

Free Palestine.

Nearly 2,000 people, including about 1,700 seized from Gaza and held without charge, set free from Israeli jails.
In total, 88 Palestinians were released from Israeli prisons and sent to the occupied West Bank on Monday – the other nearly 2,000, a number that includes about 1,700 Palestinians seized from Gaza during the war and held without charge, were sent back to Gaza, where a minority would travel on to neighbouring countries.

Force agrees to pay damages to Laura Murton, 43, who also had sign saying ‘Israel is committing genocide’.

A protester who was threatened with arrest under the Terrorism Act for holding a Palestine flag and signs saying “free Gaza” and “Israel is committing genocide” has received an apology from police, including for “unlawful false imprisonment”.
Kent police have also agreed to pay damages and legal costs to Laura Murton, 43, in connection with the 14 July incident in Canterbury in which armed officers told her her demonstration expressed views supportive of Palestine Action, which had been banned earlier that month.
After the Guardian reported the incident, it was raised in parliament, in court – by a judge granting Palestine Action permission for judicial review of its proscription – and by the equalities watchdog when warning of “heavy-handed” policing of Gaza protests.
A letter sent to Murton on behalf of the chief constable of Kent police, Tim Smith, admitted there had been a breach of her right to free speech and that the officers had breached national counter-terrorism policing guidance on the proscription of Palestine Action.

It also admitted unlawful processing of her data and said he had directed that the data be deleted. The officers had said that they would arrest Murton unless she provided her name and address, which she reluctantly agreed to do.
Responding to the settlement of the case, Murton, who said she would donate any compensation to Palestinian causes, said: “People should continue to exercise their lawful right to protest in support of Palestinian people despite the proscription of Palestine Action. I hope this case serves as a reminder to chief constables across the country that there should be no unlawful interference with those protest rights.”
Her lawyer said it was the first time a chief constable had apologised and paid damages for unlawful policing arising from the proscription of Palestine Action.

Two years of humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza have fractured the consensus that once shielded Israel from significant international pressure. There are growing calls to shun Israeli and Israeli-adjacent businesses, ban the country from sporting and cultural events, and cut ties with its academic institutions. From stadiums to the high street, from concert halls to the political stage, the boycott movement is moving from the fringe to the mainstream.

Revulsion at Israel’s wartime conduct has mounted, as images of starving children emerged and the death toll exceeded 67,000 people. Last month a team of independent experts commissioned by the UN’s human rights council concluded that Israel was committing genocide.

We are facing a brutal war unprecedented in modern history, both in its scale and in the nature of its targeting of an entire people, not just a specific faction, and its attempt to erase their physical and moral existence.

The war was not "traditional between two armies," but rather a confrontation between the colonial system and our people, who are defenseless except for their will.

The occupation failed to achieve the goals of the war it announced, especially displacement and uprooting. Despite the horror of the destruction and the breadth of the tragedy, the Palestinian people were not defeated, nor was the resistance broken. With very limited capabilities, it is still waging a guerrilla war within the alleys of Gaza.

The war has turned into a point of internal political contradiction for the entity, especially given the war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu's attempt to prolong the fighting to maintain the cohesion of his government.

The spirit of resistance ignited by Gaza is no longer extinguishable, and every attempt to impose surrender only plants the seeds of deeper and broader resistance.

The children’s names below appear on a list of victims of Israel’s offensive in Gaza, maintained by health authorities in the territory. As of the end of July it ran to 60,199 names, of whom 18,457 were under 18s. Far from comprehensive, the list does not include the thousands still buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings, as well as the war’s many indirect victims.
